Inside Out Conference

Inside Out is a Divas of Colour’s confidence-building retreat programme that focuses on trauma healing to help participants feel more secure and self-assured. It is based on the idea that unresolved trauma can significantly undermine a person’s self-esteem and ability to function effectively in the world. Inside Out helps participants to address the root causes of trauma with the aim to rebuild confidence from a solid foundation rather than simply offering superficial coping mechanisms.

Key Principles of Trauma-Informed Confidence Building

The programme’s effectiveness stems from several core principles:

  • Holistic Approach: Inside Out recognises that trauma affects the mind, body, and emotions. Healing, therefore, requires a holistic approach that addresses all these areas. Incorporating mindfulness exercises to help participants reconnect with their bodies in a safe way and somatic techniques to release physical tension held from traumatic experiences.
  • Safety and Trust: A central tenet of trauma healing is creating a safe environment where participants can feel secure enough to confront their past. Inside Out ensures that all activities are conducted with a deep respect for individual boundaries, and facilitators are trained to create a non-judgemental and supportive space crucial for deep emotional work.
  • Understanding and Integration: The programme helps people understand how their past experiences have shaped their present-day challenges. By connecting the dots between past trauma and current feelings of low confidence, participants can stop blaming themselves and begin the process of integrating these experiences in a healthy way. This shift from shame to understanding is a powerful step in rebuilding self-worth.
  • Empowerment: Inside Out is designed to empower participants by giving them tools and strategies to manage their emotional responses and navigate difficult situations. Instead of being passive recipients of therapy, they become active participants in their own healing journey.
